Student Visa Work Hours: How 9 Countries Actually Count Them

Student visa work hours mean different things in 9 countries. See how each counts weeks, fortnights and years, what counts as work, and mistakes to avoid

The same number on your visa can mean very different things, because each country counts student visa work hours in its own way. The UK counts hours in a fixed week that starts on Monday. Australia counts any 14 days that start on a Monday. Germany counts days, not hours, across the calendar year. France counts hours across a year that starts on your permit date. So before you accept a shift pattern, check three things: the unit (hours or days), the window (week, fortnight or year) and the day your window starts. If the government doesn’t say when it starts, test every possible start day before you call a schedule safe.

What Happens to Your Student Visa If You Failed a Module? UK, Australia, US and Canada Compared

Fail a module student visa checks in the UK, Australia, the US and Canada

Failing one module, unit or class doesn’t usually cost you your student visa on its own. The trouble starts with what can follow a fail: you drop below full-time, take a long break, get suspended, or run out of time before your visa or enrollment ends. Each country handles this differently, and your school’s own policy often decides what happens next. So talk to your international student office before you change your study load or miss a deadline.
